The Leyburn Band had another very successful year in 2009. This 'village' Band, which was reformed late in 2003 after closing ten years earlier, has worked really hard throughout the year. Its season of playing, including the making of their second CD 'Signat'ure' and various contest successes, culminated in a superb Christmas Concert the night before Christmas Eve. They had already played for the Richmond Town Carol Concert, a Christmas Charity Concert at the Middleham Racing Stables, a Massed Band outdoor Carol Concert, the Leyburn Town Carol Service, a day's busking outside the local Tesco before their final concert.

Although the area, which is very rural, suffered from (and still is) extreme weather conditions this did not deter them or their audiences enthusiasm. It has been very difficult to negotiate the roads and yet for the Christmas Concert some 350 people (from all over the area as well as many visitors) turned out to hear the band of 43 play at the concert which was preceded by a grand firework display. The venue for the evening was at the Tennants Auction Rooms in Leyburn. George Lundberg MD said "We are extremely grateful for the wonderful hospitality and generosity the Band has been shown by Tennants. Playing in this tremendous venue to a capacity audience has been a night to remember and yet another milestone in the Band's recent history."

Leyburn Band are now having a well earned rest for a week before their twice weekly rehearsals commence on the 3rd January.

They have a full programme for next year with their first concert being on February 19th in St. Mary's and St. Alkelda's Church, Middleham. Leyburn Band would like to take the opportunity of wishing everyone in the banding fraternity a Happy and Successful 2010.

Congratulations to John Bell for passing with merit his ABRSM Practical examnination on Eb Bass.

NB Band rehearsals will commence as soon as weather pemits.
