First CD Recording

After two long hard days blowing we have now completed our first CD! After around 250 separate takes we have managed to record 11 tracks. Now the hard part begins as George Lundberg and his daughters Emma, Victoria and Rebecca will spend a lot of laborious hours listening through the takes for the perfect cuts to piece together a superb performance our audience deserve (Rather them than me that's all I can say!).

Tournament of Song

Playing on the final night Leyburn Band gave a performance the adjudicator felt worthy of a mark of 91, the highest mark of the tournament. this meant that we get to keep the tournament cup for a second year running. The performance was rounded off with an improvised version of Happy Birthday as it was the adjudicators birthday that day.

Instruments Purchased

After many moons of banding Hawden Band folded this month as seems to be happening with a lot of bands nowadays. But life goes on, and as mercenary as it may seem it was a good opportunity for us to purchase the instruments we are so sorely lacking.

We are now the proud owners of 3 Timp's (the only band in Wensleydale to have Timp's). The vast majority if not all of Hawden's library comprising around 1,000 pieces. A Glock and a pair of crash cymbals. All paid for with the grant money received in February.

We have also purchased a Besson Sovereign Baritone for our 1st Baritone player, Leslie Black and Jackie Walker, 2nd Horn, has received a new Yamaha horn.
